I had one of the most interesting experiences of my life happen. I was in Nashville to win an award for “Let It Rise.” Big Daddy Weave released an amazing version of “Let It Rise” in the fall of 2006 and it went to # 3 on the radio charts making is one of the 25 most played songs in 2006.
It was a great evening of music. One of the highlights was a “lifetime achievement” award given to DeGarmo and Key for their contribution as pioneers in Christian Music. They played a mini-set of some of their hits and it rocked!!!
Chris Tomlin won Christian Songwriter of the Year. EMI won Christian Music Publisher of the Year. Roxie and I sat next to Ross Parsley and John Eagen who also won an award for “I Am Free.” It was also good to catch up with some folks that I don’t get to see as often like – Chris Tomlin and David and Toni Crowder. I also got to meet Shelly Giglio – Louie Giglio’s wife.
I’m really grateful to the Jeremy Redmond who had the vision to record “Let It Rise” in a new and fresh way. What a humbling experience to see God’s favor on something – it really has had nothing to do with me – it’s all God.
One other thing I noticed was the large number of worship songs that were winning awards. It’s amazing how true the scriptures are when they say – if you lift me up, I will draw all men to myself.
