When a farmer plants seed he knows the crop isn’t going to come overnight. It takes time and it’s not an exact science. A farmer can’t predict the exact moment the seed will sprout. There are days when it looks like nothing is happening, but underneath the surface the seed is undergoing a transformation. Even when the young seedling breaks out of the ground a lot can happen to keep it from bearing fruit. In the midwest they only rely on the water provided by rain from heaven. This is called dry-farming. The biggest threat to a crop is drought. Drought can destroy a crop. Disease can destroy a crop. A swarm of locust can destroy a crop. Weeds can choke out a crop. The farmer is on constant alert as the seedling mature into a full fruit bearing plant. Then harvest comes and there is an immediate pressure to harvest the fruit before it goes bad. At any moment, if a farmer takes his eye off the goal of reaping a harvest… it would be easy to become discouraged. I don’t see any growth. We haven’t had rain. The work of keeping the crop disease free, bug free, weed free is unrelenting and tiring. It’s too hard. But the farmer keeps going because he knows a harvest is coming. Listen, you might not see the fruit in your life you think you should by now. It might appear that God is taking His sweet time and you’re growing impatient. Your impatience is not going to make the crop come sooner. Don’t loose heart. Keep your eye on the prize. God, the Great Farmer, is producing a mighty harvest in you! Keep moving forward in Jesus.
