NEWS ALERT! THE FLESH IS DEAD IN CHRIST! There is a popular teaching that we are in a spiritual battle between the flesh and the Spirit. Nothing can be further than the truth. Paul tells us in Ephesians that we are not wrestling against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers. That includes our own flesh and blood. So if our struggle is not against the flesh, what is it against? The answer is simple. We are struggling against our WILL and the lies that we believe about ourselves because of unbelief. I do not believe that I am a new creation, therefore I give myself an out when I WANT to do something that I know I shouldn’t do and I call it my FLESH. I’m just FLESHING OUT or my FLESH got the best of me. NO… you just WANTED the rush, the comfort, the satisfaction that you get from doing something you shouldn’t do because you don’t believe you are a new creation in Christ. I like the power I feel when I get angry. I like the importance I feel when I gossip. I like the feeling of life I feel when I get drunk. But all of it is just a mirage and it leaves us wanting more. Unbelief keeps us from going to the ONLY source of life we have in this world… Jesus Christ. Unbelief leads me to take care of myself instead of receiving what I need from Jesus. Why not shut the back door of unbelief and recognize the truth that my FLESH is crucified with Christ. Rather than use your freedom from the tyranny of the FLESH to go back to the unfruitful deeds of darkness, use your freedom to walk with Jesus day by day, moment by moment and let Jesus be to you everything that you need. It will change your life.
